University of Niš

The University of Niš, a government-run institution for education and research, comprises 13 faculties and stands as the primary academic hub in Eastern and Southern Serbia. University of Niš was accredited on January 31st 2009 for the first time.

The University of Niš, a state-administered institution dedicated to education and research, serves as the principal academic nucleus in Eastern and Southern Serbia. Established in 1965, it boasts a notable alumni base, with over 58,000 graduates and approximately 1,500 candidates having successfully defended their doctoral dissertations.

Comprising 13 faculties, most situated in Niš, the second-largest city in the country and a focal point of the Southern and Eastern Serbia region, the university offers a comprehensive range of academic disciplines:

  • Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, providing programs in architecture, civil engineering, and related fields.
  • Faculty of Economics, offering courses in economics, business management, finance, banking, and related subjects.
  • Faculty of Electronic Engineering, specializing in electrical engineering, computer science, telecommunications, electronics, and related areas.
  • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, educating students in mechanical engineering, engineering management, and computer science.
  • Faculty of Medicine, offering programs in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, public health, and related fields.
  • Faculty of Law, providing legal education across all levels of study.
  • Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, consisting of six departments delivering education in physics, mathematics, chemistry, informatics, biology, ecology, geography, and tourism.
  • Faculty of Occupational Safety, offering courses in environmental protection, fire protection, emergency management, communal system management, and occupational safety.
  • Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, providing academic and applied study programs in physical education and sports.
  • Faculty of Philosophy, offering academic programs in philosophy, psychology, history, sociology, journalism, communication, public relations, pedagogy, Serbian, English, French, and Russian language and literature studies.
  • Faculty of Arts, featuring diverse study programs in visual arts (including graphic design) and music arts (including piano, accordion, wind instruments, string instruments, solo singing, guitar, and music pedagogy).

Additionally, two faculties of the University of Niš are located in other towns within Southern Serbia, Leskovac, and Vranje:

  • Faculty of Technology in Leskovac, providing education in textile technologies, chemical technologies, food technology, and biotechnology.
  • Teacher Training Faculty in Vranje, offering education for teachers and pre-school teachers, along with a doctoral program in teaching methodology.
